Blind spot monitoring explained

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) is an advanced safety feature found in many modern vehicles. It is designed to help drivers detect objects or vehicles in their blind spots, which are the areas that are not directly visible to the driver in the side mirrors.

The system utilizes sensors placed near the rear of the vehicle to detect obstacles in the blind spot. When a vehicle enters the blind spot, an indicator light on the side mirror will illuminate and an audible warning will sound to alert the driver.

In some vehicles, the system will even apply brakes if the driver attempts to change lanes without checking the blind spot. This can help reduce the risk of a collision with a vehicle in the blind spot.
